Sony Ericsson Increases BSE Stake
December 15, 2005
Sony Ericsson has announced that they will increase its stake in Chinese BSE (Beijing Suohong Electronics), their PCB (Printed Circuit Board) contract manufacturer, from 10% to 74.5%. This will boost Sony Ericsson's in-house capacity, allowing them to better compete with Nokia and Motorola. BSE will then strengthen partnership with Putian Mobile Communications, Sony Ericsson's joint venture, to achieve the maximum economies of scale and an integrated supply chain from PCB manufacturing to customization. In addition, Sony Ericsson plans to establish a software test center and a creative design center in China, so as to conduct most of its testing in China and to produce more China-oriented products, hoping to hold a top-three ranking in the Chinese mobile phone market by 2008.
